In vacations and trips, we are often overwhelmed with the hundreds of things we have to bring that we end up getting a headache right before the trip. However, there are ways to make life easier for you.
Planning and organization are the perfect combination when it comes to family vacations such as camping trips. When you plan, you organize everything especially the necessities like camping equipment and camping tents to bring to the trip.
First you have to create a master checklist of all the things you need to bring from camping equipment like tents to cookware like pots and pans to make sure you’re not in the middle of the woods already when you realize that you didn’t bring a can opener when all the food you brought are canned.
From this master checklist, you can divide the items into categories to make checking and packing much easier. You checklist should include sections such as personal necessities, tents for camping and equipment, first aid kit, clothing apparel, children and baby supplies, food and cookware, and sleeping provisions.
For the personal necessities category, include grooming and hygiene kit such as bath soap, shampoo, toothbrush, toothpaste, hair brush, antiperspirant or deodorant, insect repellent spray or lotion, towels, tissue paper, perfume, sun block, sun glasses. Also put under this section personal items such as ID, money, wallet, credit cards, watch, cellular phone and camera.
Under the category camping accessories put every camping related gear that you need such as tents, map, compass, lanterns, flashlights and batteries, pocket knife, radio, rope, tent repair gear, lighter, camping tables and chairs, binoculars.
Sub categories of camping tent are the sleeping supplies and food and cookware. For the sleeping supplies, include the tent, tent poles, sleeping bags or inflatable air mattresses, air pump, pillows, and blankets.
On the other hand, list under food and cookware all the kitchen utensils and equipment that you would need. It is advisable to put on the side of this list, the menu of dishes you wish to prepare for your family so that you will know which utensils you need. What you may want to include in this list are food containers, pots and pans, stove, grill, fuel, plates and bowls, spoons and forks, spatula, tongs, can and bottle openers, knives, dish detergent and sponge. Of course, don’t forget food and water. Place previously measured ingredients in resealable plastic bags so that cooking will be much easier.
For your first aid kit, be sure you have the essential medicines for common ailments such as colds, flu, fever, headache, upset stomach, cough, diarrhea and toothache. Also remember to put in antiseptic solutions and band aids for wounds and cuts as well as tweezers for taking out splinters and alcohol for disinfecting.
In your clothing list, include sweat pants, shirts, jacket, gloves, underwear, pajamas, swimsuit, hats, and footwears like sandals, rubber shoes and hiking boots.
If you’re bringing children or babies with you, you surely do not want to miss any of these. For babies, the basics are milk, bottles, baby food, diapers, baby wipes, bibs, spoons and bowls, blankets, travelling toys, teethers, and baby carriers such as strollers. For older kids, bring enough clothes just like yours and for the sake of your kid’s enjoyment, bring a couple of games like Frisbees, kites and balls.
Aside from planning the details of the camping trip such as location of the campsite, duration of camp, camp activities to be done and camp dishes to be prepared, you also have to plan the things that you should bring to ensure that you don’t forget anything. There’s nothing worse than searching for a convenience store to get the missing item in your bags only to find out that they don’t have that available. |
