For some people, winter means staying at home, all snuggled up with a nice good book to read or sipping hot chocolate while sitting in front of the fire place. Some people on the other hand do not mind the cold weather and see winter as a great opportunity for fun and exciting outdoor activities.

One such example of a fun winter activity is winter camping. But of course, the word fun would only be in this phrase if you ensure that all your camping gears, most importantly your camping tents are designed specifically to survive and protect you from the chill.

It’s necessary that you are equipped with enough knowledge in finding the winter camping tent that’s perfect for you. Afterall, this takes a lot of effort as well as careful inspection and examination of the camping tent.

When buying a winter camping tent, one of the special features you have to look for are steep sidewalls. Make sure that the tent you buy has steep sidewalls that will shed snow and wind.

The poles of the tent should be 4-5 high-grade poles. Find tent poles that are made of high-strength aluminum, carbon fiber, or fiberglass.

It’s also very important to purchase a tent that has vestibules for indoor storage which will come in handy in case of extreme cold weather condition.

Don’t forget to check if it has a rainfly. Making sure it has full coverage and can be tied down to the ground is one of the things to keep in mind since rainfly act as extra protection against rain.

It’s also nice to have a tent that has a freestanding feature. Although it is always better to stake a tent down, it is also helpful if your tent can easily stand of different surfaces such as snow.

Regarding the fabric, make sure that you get a tent made of strong fabric. It will also help to keep you warm if the fabric is thick and there aren’t too many mesh on the tent since this is more ideal for sunnier camping occasions. Another important thing to note is to make sure you get a tent made of fire resistant fabric. In camping, you just can never be too careful.

As with the floor, it is recommended that you get one that has one piece floor because it is more waterproof than those floors that consist of multiple pieces. It is also better to have a tent that does not have a lot of openings for windows and doors.
